Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones ministered for over half a century as pastor in South Wales and in England as well as preaching in pulpits on many continents in the twentieth century. His pastoral gifts included Christ-centeredness, sound exposition, and clarity in communication.
This volume evidences all these gifts. Isaiah 40 a well-know chapter that centers on comfort from God to an undeserving people. The chapter provides ready opportunities to open up some of the glory of God’s character and some of the glory of the Gospel. In these nine sermons Lloyd-Jones also directs the reader’s attention to the sin within each one’s heart and the fact that forgiveness is found only in Christ. God is all-sufficient in His character and in salvation.
This volume makes profitable reading in reminding the readers of God’s greatness and sufficiency even in the uncertain times in which we live. Non-Christian readers will find the Gospel clearly and cogently presented in a compassionate, truthful manner.
